Lincoln L100 concept car is the future of luxury
Lincoln, celebrating 100 years as Ford Motor Company's luxury division, showcased one of its ideas for the next 100 years on Wednesday, showing the Lincoln L100 concept car, which it describes as a vision of the "future of luxury."

The Lincoln L100, named in honor of the brand's first luxury car, the 1922 Lincoln Model L, is a sleek, driverless, totally electric, zero-emission vehicle with aerodynamic style and powerful artificial intelligence technology, the firm says.
The concept vehicle employs next-generation battery cell and pack technology, which Lincoln claims "will deliver game-changing energy density and enable efficient, structural integration by treating the entire vehicle as a system." The idea is similar to Lincoln's "Quiet Flight" designs, with modern technology that enhance internal passenger space.
The automobile seems to greet drivers and passengers with appropriate enthusiasm. The car is so low to the earth that both reverse-hinged doors must open while the glass roof raises to allow passengers to enter and escape. The aerodynamics continue to the back with a K-tail, in which the car's rear dips downhill before suddenly terminating with a nearly vertical surface.
Once inside the cabin, travelers can alter the space for maximum (or lowest) sociability by rearranging the seats such that the front and back passengers face each other. Advanced technologies enable light to follow the driver and passengers in and around the car, while the interior hues are characterized as "accents of amethyst," and the materials used are animal-free premium alternatives.
One of the most striking aspects of this concept vehicle is the absence of a steering wheel. Instead, Lincoln has fitted a "interactive, center console chessboard," with a jewel-inspired chess piece controller that captures light and depth by redefining the car controls.
